Innovation is becoming increasingly important for aid organisations who need to come up with new ways to maximise their impact whilst working with limited funds and resources. In this session, the hosts will explain in more detail the challenges that the development sector faces in fundraising and creating impact, why innovation is inescapable and how to create an environment that can foster true innovation.
Joost van Engen is the founder of Healthy Entrepreneurs, a social enterprise using entrepreneurship to solve social challenges in remote areas in developing countries. They are growing a network of micro entrepreneurs offering a basket of health products and services to their community. Healthy Entrepreneurs equips the entrepreneurs with training, basket of products and a solar charged tablet. The business model is replicable and has the potential to scale to many countries.
Joost studied business administration in Rotterdam, worked for Zwanenberg Food Group (selling canned meat all over the globe) and worked for IDA foundation, a Dutch not for profit selling and distributing generic medicines & medical supplies to international non-governmental organisations and national central medical stores in developing countries. Healthy Entrepreneurs was founded end of 2011. Ashoka fellow since June 2016.

Robin is Project Leader Innovation a.i. at UNICEF Nederland. She obtained her degree in (media)psychology from the University Utrecht and started her career as a management trainee at ABN AMRO. She then became a recruiter and personnel selection psychologist herself, before making the move to the field of marketing.
