StartupCity is designed to provide administrators, civil servants and public-private initiatives the guidance on how they can think and work as a startup. It gives a comprehensive look at how the public sector can engage with the private sector to form initiatives that boost the startup worlds ecosystem and nurture the city as a breeding ground for innovation and job growth. This workshop show concrete lessons, cases and best practices how every city in the world can grow into a StartupCity.
Ruben Nieuwenhuis is director StartupAmsterdam and founder of CodeUur and DutchBasecamp. He also was a driving force in connecting the leading Dutch Startup Initiatives & Tech Clusters into a catalyst program: StartupDelta. His goal is to create the space where entrepreneurs standup, startup and then scale-up. The last years he focused on connecting the Start-up ecosystems of Silicon (V)alley & The Netherlands.
Ruben is involved in various Start-ups and innovation projects: i.e. DutchBasecamp, OpenDutchHackathon, CodeUur, Lead Partnership Initiative, Dutch Coding Week, Open Cities, Startupbootcamp, FellowForce, Dutch Jugaad Innovation.
In his management book, ‘Weak Tea Will Bring you Nowhere’, he provides concise, confrontational and challenging advice on the topics of Innovation, Business Development and Entrepreneurship.
He is a frequent presenter and presented in many countries, most recently at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston, USA; TEDx Haarlem, Finland at the MindTrek Conference,

Erik Stam is full professor and head of the Strategy, Organization and Entrepreneurship chair at the Utrecht University School of Economics. He is also academic director of the Utrecht Center for Entrepreneurship.
Together with his colleagues at Utrecht University and globally he provides new insights into how entrepreneurship is affected by its (organizational, economic and societal) context, and how entrepreneurship subsequently affects these contexts.
His research on entrepreneurship and development has been published in leading economics, geography and management journals, and he is consistently ranked among the top 10% authors in the field of Entrepreneurship. He is editor of Small Business Economics. Next to his scientific work he is frequently consulted by regional, national and supra-national policy makers and private sector organizations.

Joep Brouwers has been active as an manager and a consultant in the field of technology and human behaviour since the mid-eighties. First as developer and project manager for new media applications for education, later on as director of a publishing house for magazines on the relation between the developed and the underdeveloped countries.
